Davos is the second largest canton in Switzerland and its
nice valley is comfortably protected by the surrounding high
mountains. This makes the climate in the area very suitable for
any kind of sort both in winter and summer. Davos originally
became famous in the 19th century as a health resort suitable
for treating tuberculosis. One can still visit some sanatoriums
there. |
| Davos is regarded as one of Europe's oldest mountain
resorts. It established itself as a health resort in 1860 and as a
sports center in 1930. Today, Davos is a city way up in the mountains
(5100 foot elevation) that is popular all year round. Not your
average Alpine ski village, but a bustling place, famous for its
fresh mountain air, its consistently excellent snow cover and one of
the most extensive ski areas in Switzerland. It has been attracting
skiers for generations and recently gained fame as a hip
snowboarding destination. |

In Davos, we will be staying at the Sunstar
Parkhotel. This is an elegant, spacious hotel that includes many
extras, the most impressive is the in-room no-cost mini-bar, restocked daily
(that will change when they are done with Shooters!). |

| The hotel is situated in park-like,
absolutely quiet surroundings, very centrally located in Davos Platz,
only a few minutes’ walk away from the well-known Davos Promenade,
Davos Platz station and the Jakobshorn railway. |
| Culturally rich Davos is the highest town in the Alps, with
imposing ski areas on both sides of a picturesque valley. Davos
extends for almost 2.5 miles and is divided into Davos-Dorf and
Davos-Platz and is located in Graubunden in the East of Switzerland
on the Landwasser river. |

After our week in Davos, we will visit Berlin for four nights.
| This is a surprisingly different and reportedly "funky"
4-star-plus hotel. Located in the new heart of Berlin,
very close to the famous Potsdamer Square and Sony centre.
Historic Siemens building with historic Siemens Salon from 1914,
and its inner-courtyards blend of different architectural
designs and the history of the Moevenpick gastronomy. |
